Navigation North of the Chesterfield Canal, you may encounter large shipping.
The River Trent is known for high flood levels. Take care when mooring.
Our map includes the 5 mile section of the Nottingham & Beeston Canal, which takes you into the heart of the city, and is a key feature of the vibrant waterfront district. Starts at Beeston Lock No.5 to Meadow Lane Lock No.7.
The River Trent was, and still is a major waterway linking the East to the West. Enter the river, at its most northern point, from the tidal River Ouse travelling south towards Nottingham passing, along the way, junctions for: the Stainforth and Keadby Canal, the Chesterfield Canal and the Fossdyke Navigation. The River Trent joins the Trent and Mersey Canal at the Erewash Canal and the River Soar.
Travelling from the East to West the route is a large arc bending southwards as the river and canal takes you around the southern end of the Peak District. This route was a significantly less costly one that would have gone over the mountains. In addition, this route followed the River's path, assisted with a few locks.
The third longest river in England with its source in the Staffordshire Moorlands district, near the village of Biddulph Moor and passing through no less than six counties: Staffordshire, Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire and Yorkshire.
The total length of the River Trent, is 185 miles, much of which is not navigable.
