Braunston Locks

Within just a .8 of a mile from where the Oxford Canal junction, there are six locks, each one capable of taking two narrow boats at once.
We haven't measured, but the locks look to be the same size as Buckby Locks, which are 72 feet long and 14 feet 3 inches. The C & RT state that boats of up to 72 feet long and a beam of 12 feet 7 inches can traverse these locks.
The six locks provide a total rise of 35 feet and 6 inches. The top gates of each lock are heavy so take care in strong wind or if you're on a narrow boat, try and 'lock buddy' with another and make much lighter work.
At the lower end, there is The Boat House, Braunston Marina with chandlery and stores, Gongoozlers Rest (floating cafe boat), Braunston Boats, Grand Union Canal Carriers, The Boat Shop. At lock 3, there is the Admiral Nelson and about 350 yards Braunston Tunnel which is 2042 yards long (1867.2m) and 15 feet 7 inches wide. It takes about 20 minutes to travel from end to end.
