Nothing difficult on this canal. It is a 'Narrow' canal restricting passage to Narrow Boats.
Joining the Shropshire Union with the Trent & Mersey at Middlewich.
Planned as part of the Chester Canal, construction was delayed due to money issues. Although work was authorised in 1772, work didn't start until 1827.
Today, it forms the upper section of the Four Counties Ring. At ten miles long with plenty of mooring, the Middlewich Branch allows for easy cruising from just north of the Llangollen Canal across to the Trent & Mersey where you can cruise North towards the Anderton Lift and beyond or travel South towards the Macclesfield Canal or the Calden Canal or further South to continue the Four Counties Ring and more.
