The locks at Eastham Ferry Terminal come in three sizes. The smallest of which can take wide-beam boats larger than any on the canal network. Tide Times are a factor here, so get good information before cruising.
Our 'Lock Count' includes Pomona Lock found in Pomona Dock No3 connecting to the Bridgewater Canal.
Opened 1st January 1894 and at the time was the largest river navigation canal in the world. Seriously putting the Port of Manchester. Being some 40 miles inland did not stop Manchester Port becoming the third busiest port in the British Isles and connecting it to no less than five canals spreading out in all directions.
Today, all but the Manchester, Bolton & Bury Canal are navigable.
