Cruise 'Lock Free' all the way. Options to turn south at Walsall on the Walsall Canal or at Brownhills on the Daw End Canal. Both lead down onto the Tame Valley Canal (the Daw End via Rushall Canal).
Completed in 1797 and known locally as the 'Curly Wurley'. Originally there were 39 locks, however there is much of the canal that is no longer navigable and derelict. Indeed there is much that has been filled in and built upon. Although there are parts that are under reconstruction, it's full length will never be the same again.
Today the navigable course runs from Horsley Fields where it joins the Birmingham Old Main Line, weaving and winding its way north east to last mile and a quarter which is the Anglesey Branch.
