The River Ribble estuary is, of course, tidal. Before negotiating the Ribble Link, it is advisable to talk to the C & RT at Tarleton and seek advice on this journey.
This is quite a serious journey and not for the inexperienced. A pilot is available at Tarleton.
The Ribble Link opened in 2002 and to give it its full name 'Millennium Ribble Link'. Joining the isolated Lancaster Canal to the main network via the Leeds and Liverpool Rufford Branch.
The length of only four miles presents one of the most interesting canal journeys. After leaving Tarleton Lock and heading north to the on the River Douglas to the River Ribble, turning east towards Preston for three miles before turning north into Savick Brook.
Although the Ribble Link is four miles, it's more like eleven when you take into account Savick Brook as well.
