The Inclined Plane was only operational for ten years before being closed for economic reasons. A project to recreate the Inclined Plane was begun in 2000 but has yet to move forward.
Easily one of the most interesting sights to see on the canal network. Two five-rise staircase locks, which are Grade II listed, for a total rise of 75 feet (almost 23m). Traversing the locks by boat takes about 45 minutes. Open every day at 10am to 4pm with the last passage at 3.15pm
Even today, there is in the region of 4000 boats a year passing through the Foxton Locks. This makes it one of the busiest places on the entire canal network.
Due to the complex water saving features, the locks are operated only by the Canal & River Trust and at set times.
Popular for Walking, Cycling, Fishing, Sightseeing, Foxton Canal Museum, the locks see a great number of non-boaters visiting too. There are several Audio Trail points around the locks with several stories to listen to.
The car park at the bottom is Pay & Display £3.50 (at time of writing) for a 4 hour visit.
Disabled mooring is available above the top lock where there are also two water points. Another water point opposite the bottom lock with another about 50 yards up the Leicester Arm. Refuse and Elsan in the bottom car park.
